If I could describe one word I want my home to feel when you walk in it would be “cozy.” When I fill my home up with all my favorite pieces, my goal is to include pillows, blankets, baskets, plants, and little touches that fill each and every corner, creating a cozy space.
I’m such a believer in not rushing to decorate your house, but rather to pick up pieces that mean something to you and then fill things in over time. Fill the baskets with cozy blankets and pillows. Stack books on your bookshelves. Add greenery around your rooms. Hang pictures on the walls. A home where you feel cozy in the winter makes you want to stay, put up your feet, light a fire, and curl up with a hot cup of coffee.
My favorite places to pick up cozy pieces are typically a local flea market or cute downtown shop, Target, H&M Home, Pottery Barn, and more. Here are some of my favorite essentials for making your home cozy for winter.
Cozy Home Essentials
H&M Home Tassel Pillow
I don’t know why but I have always loved pillows and it has become a problem. But, I can’t get myself to spend an arm and a leg for one. So when I was browsing the H&M home section one day, I came across these pillows and had to have them. They’re only $29.99 for a pillow cover and they add so much to my couch. You can mix and match with other pillows and they’re amazing quality!

Sherpa Fleece Blanket
Cozy blankets are always folded up in a basket near my fireplace. Every winter, either my kids or husband is wrapped in a blanket while we watch movies. I was browsing Amazon one day when I noticed this blanket and loved that it was cream and sherpa. It’s under $40 and would even be a great Christmas gift!

Mellanni Hotel Luxury Sheets
Buttery soft sheets are my jam. We sleep an average of 8 hours in our bed each night and having a comfy space to rest is high on my must-have list! But I also don’t want to break the bank. I found these sheets a couple years back and they’re on all the beds in my house. I love getting white so I can bleach them if we have stains.

Decorative Round Rattan Basket
Baskets were huge in the 80’s and my Mom had them everywhere—now I love them too! I use them for plants, to put toys in, blankets, and just for decoration. I usually find them at Tj Maxx and Target. Baskets add so much organization to your space, and they clean up the toys or any clutter you want to hide.

Dipped Stoneware Speckle Mug
Whether I’m enjoying tea, coffee, or hot chocolate, I love a good mug. Winter is coming and for some reason I always have a few favorite mugs on rotation. These are great for gifts—just throw in a coffee gift card or some hot cocoa mix. Plus, this cute mug is only $5 at Target!

Medium Faux Wood Table Lamp
Lighting can really change a room up. I love on a cozy, cold winter day when the lights are dimmed in a room and one solo lamp is on. It just puts a mood in the room and all you want to do is sit by the lamp and read a good book. A cozy house always has lamps in the living room with a book nearby to read.

Woven Cotton Plaid Throw Blanket
I have two blankets that I use for decoration that are draped over my living room furniture. My kids know that these are not blankets to warm ourselves up with on movie night. They are strictly to add “cozy” to the room and as well as a touch of texture.

Sand + Fog Soy Candle
If I want my home to feel extra cozy I love to light a bunch of candles. The twinkle of the light and the aroma of the candle just embraces this cozy feeling inside. Once I discovered these candles, I was hooked. My favorite place to snag a few is on the aisles of TJ Maxx and Nordstrom Rack. They are under $20 and come in so many yummy scents and colors. I stock up on these for gifts and circulate them through my house.
